Positive outcome after previous set back

Scenario
We received an enquiry from a lady who had tried to organise a new income protection and critical illness mortgage protection plan online. After quite a lengthy application and underwriting process she was informed by the insurer that they could offer her cover but would apply a full cancer exclusion to her policy because sadly her mother has breast cancer in her 50’s.
As it stood all she had in place for protection was 3 months sick pay entitlement from her employer, and after this she would move on to statutory sick pay if she was ever unable to work long term. Understandably due to her mum’s previous illness, having cancer cover in place for her was a top priority.
Recommendation
We were able to draw on our extensive experience and knew which questions to ask our client regarding any scans, tests or follow ups, to understand what she
has been advised regarding the risk and likelihood of her suffering from the same illness as her mother in the future. The outcome was that she was given the all clear from doctors in every respect regarding future risks.
This information allowed us to liaise directly with the underwriters of all the leading insurers to discuss the case in detail and understand whether there would be any impact on any future policies. Despite the fact that some insurers took a similar approach with cancer as an exclusion, our protection specialist managed to source a comprehensive policy from one of the UK’s leading insurers. No exclusions were applied to either of the policies, all conditions were covered as normal and there was no increase to the original policy premium.
Outcome
In this scenario, our client was delighted as she secured the cover that she originally wanted. She had a fully comprehensive income protection policy that will protect her all the way up to her retirement age. She also now has in place a comprehensive life and critical illness policy to protect her whole mortgage with no exclusions or increased premium for either policies.
Our specialist also helped our client place the life insurance portion of her life and critical illness mortgage protection plan into trust. This helps to ensure a quick pay out to her husband in the event that she passes away while the policy is in place.
